In plain English: Tarsier is a small browser-based video monitor. It is not a medical device or a safety system. Use it as a helpful extra eye and ear, not a substitute for actually being there.
Important. Tarsier is not certified or designed to detect emergencies, sound alarms, or replace direct supervision. Do not rely on it as your sole means of monitoring a child or any other person.
Tarsier is a website that lets two of your own devices, on your own WiFi, stream video and audio between each other. The video travels directly between the two devices — our server only brokers the introduction.
Tarsier was made for private WiFi networks you trust — your home, your office, somewhere with a stable connection only the people you know can join. The video moves directly between your two devices on that network and doesn't leave the building.
Public and guest networks aren't supported. Hotel WiFi, café WiFi, airport WiFi, conference WiFi, transit WiFi, and most "guest" networks block devices from talking to each other, which is exactly what Tarsier needs in order to work.
Even on networks where the connection happens to work, we wouldn't recommend pointing Tarsier at a quiet room through a network you don't control. Public networks can include unknown devices, network operators with logging, and captive portals that interfere with the stream. The peace of mind we're trying to give you comes from the network being trustworthy in the first place.
If Tarsier doesn't connect, it's almost always one of:
We can't make Tarsier work on networks like these, and we wouldn't recommend trying — both for reliability and because that's not where this belongs.
The free tier lets you stream for 24 hours per device. After that, paying $5 (one-time, no subscription) gives you a perpetual licence to use Tarsier in your household: unlimited streaming, up to 4 viewers per session, restore on any device.
The licence is for personal, household use. No commercial use, no resale.
Tarsier is for monitoring spaces you own or have permission to monitor. Do not use Tarsier to record people without their knowledge or consent where that consent is required by law.
Do not attempt to abuse, overload, or attack the service.
If Tarsier doesn't work for you, email hi@tarsier.live within 30 days of purchase and we'll refund you. No questions.
After 30 days we'll consider refund requests case by case but make no promise.
Tarsier is provided "as is." We do everything we can to keep it running, but we don't guarantee uninterrupted service, perfect performance, or that it will reliably detect any particular event in the room being monitored.
To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability to you under these terms is limited to the $5 you paid (or $0 if you haven't paid).
We are not liable for indirect, incidental, or consequential losses — including but not limited to losses arising from missed events that the service did or did not surface.
You can stop using Tarsier at any time by closing the browser. We may suspend or end your access if you violate these terms.
If we shut Tarsier down entirely, we'll give at least 30 days' notice in the app and pro-rate refund recent purchases.
How we handle data is covered in our Privacy notice.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute will be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
We may update these terms. We'll change the "last updated" date below. Material changes will be announced inside the app for at least 30 days before taking effect.
